Description
This database gathers 952 bird specimens deposited in the Zoological Collection of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) in Chile. This zoological collection was gathered by many scientists in the early XX Century, and those specimens were preserved thanks to the fine work of the Italian taxidermist José Carpeneto, who worked at the PUCV for many years. This collection is currently deposited in the Curauma campus of the PUCV, and part of it is on permanent exhibition for outreach purposes. This digitization effort is part of the PUCV to mobilize its biological collections and make them freely available through GBIF, encouraging national and international researchers to generate new knowledge based on this invaluable heritage, which is a silent witness of the vast plant diversity that once existed in Chile and that is now vanishing due to anthropogenic drivers.

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 952 records.
