Description

The collection has a specimens of birds, eggs and nests from Chile.The collection was organized by Carlos Oliver Schneider between 1926-1949 and is part of the museum's historical collections. 129 correspond to native birds of Chile, distributed in 21 orders, 35 families and 70 genera. In total, it holds exponents of 80 species of Chilean birds, being the orders Anseriformes (ducks and swans), Charadriiformes (plovers), Procellariiformes (seabirds) and Passeriformes (songbirds) the best represented, with 6, 11, 9 and 12 species each. In addition, the collection has 48 specimens of exotic birds, among which species such as Dendrocygna autumnalis, Ramphastos tucanus, Ara macao, Strigops habroptilus, and birds of paradise (Paradisaeidae) stand out.
